UNBROKEN MENTOR HELPED TO SELECT STRONGEST ATHLETES FOR COMPETITIONS IN UNITED STATES
The UNBROKEN Center became the leading medical partner during the All-Ukrainian qualifying competitions for defenders who will represent our country at the United States Air Force Trials 2024.
Representatives of our Center were involved in the two-week training camp and qualifying competitions in adaptive sports. Doctors categorized the athletes and provided them with medical support. The selection organizers invited Pavlo Kozak, a mentor of the UNBROKEN Center, as a basketball coach and referee. Pavlo Kozak is a professional athlete. At the age of 12, he fell out of a tree and suffered a spinal cord injury. Since then, he has been in a wheelchair. Despite the injury, he continued to play sports and achieved remarkable success, particularly in powerlifting. He became a champion of Ukraine and Europe. Today, Pavlo helps Ukrainian soldiers who have been seriously injured to adapt to new circumstances.
Almost 170 veterans and service members who were injured, traumatized, or ill while defending the country took part in the All-Ukrainian qualifying competitions for the United States Air Force Trials 2024. They competed in 8 types of adaptive sports: rowing on simulators, archery, sitting volleyball, powerlifting, track and field, cycling, swimming, and wheelchair basketball.

Here’s what Pavlo Kozak told us about his impressions of the competition and interaction with the participants: “I was honored to work with them at the training camp and the competition itself. We had a little time, but I am satisfied with the results. Here, one player does not decide anything, everything is coordinated. We have a great teamwork.”
In March, 30 members of the National Team of Ukraine will participate in the United States Air Force Trials, a veterans’ competition in the United States.
We thank the organizers for involving Ukrainian defenders in adaptive sports and international competitions: Invictus Games: Team Ukraine, Come Back Alive, and the Ministry of Veterans.
