UNBROKEN at First Nova Poshta Barrier-Free Marathon

The UNBROKEN Center patients participated in the “Race for Two”!

On September 22, a charity race for a symbolic distance of 1 km was held in Kyiv. The UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center participants covered this distance on prostheses, crutches, and wheelchairs. They joined the race to honor their fallen comrades and to support other seriously wounded defenders who have just started their recovery and are also being treated at the UNBROKEN Center.

Andriy Solomin was the first to finish. The man is 34 years old. He is from Lutsk. In the army, he was a commander of a rifle company. He was seriously wounded and eventually lost both of his limbs. Today, Andriy was running the race for his fallen comrade-in-arms, with whom he had been friends for about ten years - Mykola Mialkovsky, nicknamed “Myka.” He was a UAV operator and was killed on December 4, 2023, while performing a combat mission.

“The first start with you, my friend, and immediately gold; I could not have done it without you. And we know it's not the last. Thank you for being there! One gold for two with Myka,” Andriy Solomin shares his emotions after the race.

Among the participants was 38-year-old Oleksiy Gushchin. The man joined the army for the sake of his son's future. The defender lost his leg this year in March near Robotyno, Zaporizhzhia. Now at the UNBROKEN Center, Oleksiy has received his prosthesis with an active foot and is becoming more confident in walking and running. The fighter ran to support other patients at the Center who could not do it themselves.

Two days before the First Barrier-Free Nova Poshta Marathon, more than 5,000 participants from 40 countries joined the event. The marathon is a charity event. The organizers will transfer 100% of the registration fees to the UNBROKEN Center. We are grateful to Ukrainians for their support of wounded defenders.

Together we are UNBROKEN!
