UNBROKEN CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH CENTER STARTED ITS WORK

The center was opened as part of the UNBROKEN KIDS project, where children affected by the war will receive free help from psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other specialists. During the full-scale invasion alone, the specialists of St. Nicholas Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv received more than 100 seriously wounded.

“Children react in a special way to any traumatic events. You need to be a specialist to recognize childhood trauma and its consequences. That is why I am very grateful to the Lviv IT Cluster community for their cooperation in creating a Mental Health Center for adults on Mazepa Street, and now for our children on Orlyk Street,” added Oleh Bereziuk, head of the psychological department of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center.

The project was brought to life thanks to the community of Lviv IT Cluster and a number of companies. They funded the costs of the renovation work. In total, they restored and equipped a room of more than 300 square meters. This includes a room for group classes, sensory therapy, six medical offices, and staff quarters.

“I am grateful to the companies that respond to all our ideas and suggestions and support such wonderful projects. In Lviv IT Cluster, we have a separate fund – Victory Projects, and we refer the mental health center to our Victory Projects. And rehabilitation, UNBROKEN, is one of our main stakeholders in this,” said Stepan Veselovsky, CEO of Lviv IT Cluster and member of the Supervisory Board of the UNBROKEN charity foundation.

The creation of a space of care, trust and assistance was made possible by: Lviv IT Cluster, KredoBank, Intrivo, on/go for\ good, JustAnswer, Red Ventures, Stronger Than Ever, EPAM Ukraine, DataArt, N-iX, dinariks, Avenga, Leobit, Romexsoft, Teamvoy, Si Time.

“Our goal was to create a mental health center at a children’s hospital. We had seen an example of such a center from our colleagues at St. Panteleimon’s Adult Hospital, and it worked extremely well. That’s why we really wanted to implement it at the children’s hospital. Our colleagues from the adult hospital helped us with this, and the IT Cluster helped a lot.

It is important to have such a center within the structure of a multidisciplinary hospital. Because while a child is undergoing surgical or trauma treatment, a psychologist immediately starts working with him or her. And this psychological support is completed at the rehabilitation stage,” said Ivan Miskiv, head of the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital.

“We sincerely thank everyone who became part of the project. The opening of the Mental Health Center is another step in the development of the psychiatric field in medicine and an important change for the future of our children.

We care about those who will make changes in the country tomorrow. With faith in Victory!
